I saw The Golden Compass movie trailers recently when I went to check out The Bee Movie (great game!) — and I think I thought they were too scary to be shown to kids.

I was glad when The Golden Compass movie trailer was over, and now I see why after reading all the Christian reviews of The Golden Compass, a movie based on atheist author Philip Pullman’s triology of books.

Christians are up in spiritual arms over The Golden Compass movie, and I’m wondering why Nicole Kidman would want to star in any film with anti-Christian overtures.


“My books are about killing God,” Pullman told the Sydney Morning Herald in 2003.

Now, closer to the film’s pre-Christmas, December 7th release date, Pullman is backing off of his claims of promoting atheism.

Ah…and what say you to these things?

Part of me thinks of that verse that says, “If it’s not of God, it won’t prosper.”

And the other part of me shouts like Jesus the Christ at Peter:

“Get thee behind me Satan! You are a stumbling block and an offense to me.”

And another part thinks of the ridiculousness of anyone thinking thinking they could kill God – legalistic and Pharisee-like religious laws, yes – but not the power of the mighty One himself.

Hasn’t he read what happened to folks like Judas Iscariot who had a hand in killing Jesus?

Doesn’t he know who wins at the end of the Book in Revelation?


Who the heck does Pullman think is keeping his heart beating? For now…

Anyway, will Christian boycott “The Golden Compass” movie?

Sure, naturally we’ll stay away or picket if the Lord leads.

Pullman has said how much he’s hated C.S. Lewis, famous atheist-turned-author-for-Christ of books like Mere Christianity and The Chronicles of Narnia.

But perhaps that hatred is really a feeling of defensiveness against being called to repent — just like Peter did to Aslan in The Chronicles of Narnia – The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe Movie, just like I did last night in my dream — poised to fill out an online repentance form (what an idea!) — just like Pullman will hopefully do before his deathbed when all his daemons have failed him.

And led him straight to Sheol…
