For Charles Gibson,
All I can say about your Thursday, 9/11/08 interview with Sarah Palin is that I thought you were tough but I also think she answered your questions with flying colors. I’d like to hear you ask similar or the same questions, with the same tones and inflections, of Obama. Specificly, I’d like you to ask him what are his credentials to be our next President and does he think he has as much executive and international experience as Sarah. If so, I’d sure like to hear what they are.
Looking forward to your interview of Obama.
Thanks,

For Phil Canoura,
I’m not sure what interview you watched, but Palin did not answer most of the questions. And Mr. Gibson could have been tougher on her, as she is new on the scene and there are many more concerns with her than with Obama in regards to leading our country (e.g., Palin’s religious fundamentalist and creationism beliefs and what judges she would elect to the Supreme Court ; possible abuse of power in Alaska whether it be with the police commissioner, the librarian or earmarks; repeatedly misrepresenting her record, etc.)
The press needs to take advantage of the small amount of time they are given to question an unknown who could end up being the President of the U.S.! Obama has been through this process and then some.
Thanks

That first group of clips is cleverly cut and pasted together! Congratulations on your attempt to make Gov. Palin look bad. Too bad she is smarter than Gibson and all you ABC hacks! I dare you if you have a shred of decency and soul in your beings to ask Obama similar questions and press him like Palin was pressed in this interview! Ask him tough questions about his associations, church, anti-white sentiments from his books! There is more than enough juicy story lines to press him on! Press him like you did Palin. Or are you afraid to because you know YOUR candidate would crumble under such pressure! Too bad for ABC and other mainstream news sources, but the country has alternative news sources now. And we can see through your blatant attempts to drive an agenda and a candidate. Sell outs!!

i agree with you lola what was that guy looking at? she got so defensive and upset at the questions that was asked, you can see it in her face. She was cluless and was trying think of something that sounded good. She wasn’t a pitbull tonight she was a poodle. She knows nothing about foreign policy doesnt have a clue what to do if terrorist was to attack or come to her face.biden eat her alive. she failed the first interview miserbly to me.

nicolle -
don’t be mean to poodles! poodles are at least are smart.
no really, i agree with you…palin is just about one of the dumbest individuals i’ve ever heard. for her not to believe the overwhelming scientific evidence that supports the view that human activity is the main cause of global warming is unbelievable. she must have been schooled by george w. bush himself and well, you know where his education (or miseducation) left the country.
it’s time for SMART people to lead this country. i’m not voting for mccain b/c he’s a sellout to his maverick-ness but at least i don’t think he’s generally dumb. he picked palin b/c she was a smart choice to help him win the religous wackos over, not because she has good judgement or can govern.
god save this country if he gets elected and he dies while in office. as matt damon would say — is this a bad movie or what?

I so expected a better interview, those questions have not been asked of Democrats yet rather easy to address ones.
In my lifetime when any kind of good ole boy mentality faces a female in a power postion they seek to trip them up to prove they are less intelligent. She however did not do the stammering or stuttering that Obahma does. She did answer some the only way any government or political official can do. They cannot just give a answer of absolute on matters of war plans, that would be like being a traitor.
This interview proves our Country needs more than what we have had to get us in so much trouble, we need a change from those who think being a democrat or republican is proof of the real person behind that stand. Far too many forget our Senate runs much of our country despite they constantly blame the President.

Charlie I was very disappointed in you. You seemed to have succumbed to the media pressure of an image that I have not seen in you before. Yes, your questions were tough, but you were in an attack mode rather than your usual, what I have thought was an unbiased, non-sexist even interviewer. I guess you news people are all alike and you have lost face in
order to seem like all the rest. What a shame for you. I thought you were better than that.

Governor Palin did well in her first interview. She refused to buckle when Charlie Gibson demanded a yes-or-no answer to an oversimplified hypothetical question about going into Pakistan — even after he insulted her by saying that he had just “got lost in a blizzard of words.” So she explained it to him again.
True, she could have played along a bit more and answered: “It depends…” That would have been an accurate answer as well. But instead she stuck to her principles and sent home her message: We will do whatever it takes to bring terrorists to justice, leaving all options on the table. Her answer shows leadership and self-discipline.
Finally, Charlie Gibson showcased his ignorance by the way he asked questions regarding the speech Sarah Palin gave in a church encouragement its members to pray that our troops are doing God’s will. His interpretation of what she said renders it incoherent. Asking that we pray God’s will is being done, does not presuppose that God’s will is being done. If it did, then why pray about it? The truth is, Gibson’s either being dishonest, or his ability to think clearly is being distorted by prejudice.
Here’s a link to an incisive analysis by David Friedman of this quote being misconstrued by members of the Democratic Party: http://daviddfriedman.blogspot.com/2008/09/quoting-palin-out-of-context.html#links.

I am verry dissappointed in Charlie. It seemed to me that all he was intrested in is catching Palin of guard. NO intrest in the real story, about this intelligent human being or about what she would offer this country. I suppose that you just couldn’t look past the fact that she is woman(#1), has children who are human (#2) and that she will possibly make history, while you will be forgotten (#3). Stop being jelous of her.
September 12th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
UNEDUCATED, Palin is so UNEDUCATED!!!
She can not pronounce word ‘nuclear’ (the same as G.Bush)!!! It is very dangerous when people not knowing basic world geography or history are leading this country.
She might bring Armageddon to us just believing that Armageddon is going to happen. She so easily talks about starting a nuclear war with Russia! I want my children to live. It looks worse then G.Bush. God, please, save us from her!

I do not understand why people are so quick to accept and defend Sarah Palin just because she was chosen as the Republican Vice Presidential candidate, when ALL OF US are just learning about her. Everyone, regardless of their party affiliation should review all candidates with scrutiny. She came on the scene unexpectedly, and I would be curious to know the percentage of her vast supporters who knew anything about her before McCain announced her as his running mate.
Freedom,
“The real story” has nothing to do with the fact that she is a woman, that she has children, or making history… THE REAL STORY is that Sarah Palin is running for office. If McCain/Palin are elected, and something were to happen to McCain, Sarah Palin would be in the position of President of the United States. The REAL STORY is that Sarah Palin, if elected would be “on call” to be the Head of State, the Leader of our Government, Commander in Chief of the armed forces, would have the power to sign into law or veto bills, empowered to make treaties and appoint federal officers, ambassadors, and federal judges, including Justices of the Supreme Court. She would be in charge of our defense, our foreign policy, our education, health care, social security; the future of our country would be in her hands.
Be as hard on her as possible. On each candidate. Rip every candidate apart and find out what they are really about and what their qualifications are. This is more than a freakin popularity contest. How dare anyone criticize any interviewer for being “too hard” on any candidate involved in this election. THIS IS THE FUTURE OF OUR NATION. THAT is the “real story.”
September 12th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
Palin is in over her head.
What I find most frightening in this interview is Palin’s repeated assertion that we “not blink” when dealing w/threats to our country. We need leaders who will carefully consider the consequences of our actions rather that “cowboy up” like the current administration. When all is justified by God’s plan, and we can’t blink, how do we distinguish whether a threat is actually imminent? What do they call that? Oh yeah…Bush Doctrine.

Zoe,
If global warming is caused solely by human beings, then how come the planets surrounding us are warming at about the same rate? Think sunflares ! At the very most we are a minor contributor, and it was pure genius promoting mercury vapor light bulbs for use in homes where children can be poisoned by their breakage.
As for Charlie, he proved that he belongs at the bottom of the sea like a real anchor. Now I am sure why I get my news from Fox TV. The major networks are even worse than CNN which is at least sometimes evenhanded.

Where has Charlie been hiding the smug selfrightious person
he showed himself to be in this interview. I have never
seen him address a male in such a deprecating manner. For all women, I am saddened.

I am absolutely amazed at how these comments have moved so far from the concept of ELECTING A PRESIDENT. I am not concerned with how tough are the questions, or even that MATT DAMON has a forum in which to give his opinion that I could care less about. What I would like to see is the people of our country making well informed and intelligent decisions. If you plan to vote, please vote because you agree with the candidate and not because you like OPRAH or CHUCK NORRIS. Do your research, find out how they have voted in the past, stood by their word and if they have actually worked for the better of our country. Please don’t allow the name calling and personal attacks to distract you from the big picture. We have much to lose or gain in this election.

I thought Mr. Gibson was very professional during the interview. I did not see any attack mode, hostile behavior on his part. I feel the questioning was highly appropriate for a person in the position as Sarah Palin. I was ecstatic the interviewer was Charles Gibson; someone willing and capable of asking the questions We the American people needed answers to; and should be asked of our could be VP. The excessive nervous talking, and repetitious answers did not deter Mr. Gibson from the subject at hand. Our lives and the lives of our children are at stake here People. Job well done Charles Gibson great interview.
September 12th, 2008 at 10:49 pm
I am amazed at how the media drills the Republicans, yet leave the Democrats unscathed. During this interview, Charlie was in attack mode, you could see that it did bother Palin, and she did stumble. The problem with this is that she has not had an interview before as a Vice Presidential candidate. That would be enough to make anyone nervous, no matter what credentials you had. Charlie was unfair in trying to foul her up and it did work to an extent, but hey what’s new…
September 13th, 2008 at 12:20 am
In speaking to many people about this interview, I have discovered there are three categories of responses:
FIRST, people who tend to be die-hard Republicans, or Christian conservatives, will defend Palin no matter what she says. Many responses on this page are from such people.
SECOND, liberals will attack Palin and find fault in every answer.
THIRD, those with open minds do not attack, but find tend to see Gov. Palin’s responses as weak and contrived.
I am in the third category. I voted Republican in 1996 and 2000, voted for Kerry in 2004. I find Sarah Palin to be lacking in experience AND judgment. Obama may lack experience, but his judgment does not strike me as sub-par.
McCain made a grave mistake with this one, even if he wins. She lends nothing to our country, she merely pads a political ticket.
September 13th, 2008 at 12:59 am
Gov Palin’s obvious lack of understanding of forein policy was not only shocking but terrifying. I could not believe how uneducated she seemed. It was as if she was trying to remember exactly what she had been told to say. She was unable to anawer the questions critically because she was completely lost. You could hear her parroting the answers from her week of briefing with the Mcain team. To compare her to Hillary Clinton is an insult. This woman may be a nice person and we all may feel very comfortable having dinner with her. Yet last I checked feeling comfortable with someone does not qualify them to be a heart beat away from the Presidency. We should want the press to ask her the tough questions. We need to see what she really knows outside of the prepared speech she gave at the convention and on the stump. By the looks of it she knows very little about the world and the difficult challenges we face as a nation.
I am so afraid for our country. We seemed addicted to voting for unqualified leaders that are “just like us.” That is why we are in Iraq, why our banks are closing their doors daily, why we are owned by China,Japan, Saudi Arabia and yes even Brazil, why we are addicted to foreign oil from the middle east where the resentment for us is palpable, why the dollar means nothing in the rest of the world, why we are behind every industrial nation in education. We have real problems people. Now is the time for someone with a Harvard Law Degree and a critical mind and someone with a couple of decades of foreign policy experience to take the reigns. We may not be comfortable having a beer with Obama and Biden but at least they will make it possible for us to still afford to buy a beer. Let’s not relive the last 8yrs. This is Bush /Cheney all over again. This time maybe not even as intelligent. That should concern us all.
September 13th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
Nicolle, you call Palin an iddiot for not believing in global warming and then come across sounding like one yourself. Mt. St. Helen’s spewed several times as much pollution into the air in a matter of seconds then society does in nearly a decade. Did everybody fall over from global warming out there? By the way the solar cycle of warming reversed itself last year. The earth’s temperature went down 6/10 of a degree overall. Better get your overcoat on, global cooling is on its way.
And, oh yes, somebody needs to show you where the caps button is on your keyboard.

RJ – If you don’t consider Obama’s judgement subpar then you must think that a bogey is a hole in one. He has associated himself with America hater’s (Rev. Wright and Rev. Fleger) and with an anarchist who felt he just didn’t bomb enough in America as he would have liked to(Ayers). If that is good judgement then they should change the meaning of the word in the dictionary.
Carolyn- If you couldn’t see the mean-spirited questioning and bias of Gibson maybe you didn’t have your TV set on.
Check the plug and put it IN the wall outlet.
You bet that we are concerned about the future of our country for our children, and we won’t be protected by someone who is willing to appease the Iranian radical government. We already had that experience with Hitler before WWII and the result was that 500,000 of America’s military were killed in that war.
For decades minorities have fought for equal treatment. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to extend to a Republican
female. I guess that will require still another Civil Rights initiative.

I’m frightened that the Pit bull desires a particular kind of proprietor…these dogs, regardless of how ‘warm’ still have teeth, are still creatures not having moral principles and when they DO bite, won’t allow go. As in all creatures…some often be far more suseptable to instinctual habits and time and time once again, this breed tends to complete just that.
