Keith Olbermann Fired? Chris Matthews Fired? It looks like Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews have been fired — or demoted to political analysts — on MSNBC…
When I saw “Olbermann fired” as a hot search term today, I said “No….”
Turns out I was half right: Looks like Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews (that guy yells too much, although he did eat that one guys’ lunch in that popular YouTube video) haven’t been totally fired from their jobs from MSNBC, per se, just demoted to political analysts for the upcoming election coverage.
Why were Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews Fired — Huh, Demoted, That Is…
Charges of Olbermann and Matthews’ loud and left-leaning liberal bias embarrassing NBC (the network letters chanted during Sarah Palin’s speech) are cited as the reason for the firing of the duo — which were supposed to represent fair and balanced reporting of the election.
I think some people really liked them, but I think a lot of America is like me — ready to replace the yelling, hard-edged reporters with ones who still speak their minds, and not pretend to be objectively reporting the news.
There is no such thing.
That’s why the blogs are taking over! Okay, I went too far there. But honesty is key. I will tell you that I’m still undecided in the political election — but that any yelling liberal (or conservatives like Glenn Beck, for that matter) just makes me want to change the channel.

Msnbc need to stop being a wuz the rightwing groups (rethug, fox news, right radio, and their listeners) start whining to MSNBC corp. and they fold like a deck of cards. We the people count on those to guys to speak truth to power. But noooooo shut down the people cause because John McCain couldn’t handle the heat. I’m Tim Russert is really proud of you. Nice way to honor his memory.

They have a nerve demoting the two of them. I look forward every day to tune in and learn some specifics. I am an old lady here in Oregon, and thought their programs were very informative. I do not like Fox, why dont they fire O’Rielly for his political leanings…he is the real loud mouth who cuts everyone off on his show…another one of course is rush, who makes fun of people with diseases ie michael j fox, and fun of the way Chelsey Clinton used to look as a child, by the way, McCain did the same. Wake up and bring them back!!!!!!

Wow, it is truly amazing how many brainless imbeciles there are who subscribe to the liberal media and don’t understand the difference between political commentary and news reporting.
Listen people, lose the rage…take off the blinders…get some common sense…and grab a pair of gonads to help you cope with challenges to your preconceived beliefs.
Keith Olbermann was the single most whacked out, liberally biased ‘mainstream reporter’ out there. Listen when whacked out left-wing, pinko NBC management says Olbermann leans too far to the left…that means he’s off the charts…out of the county…he’s in a different stratosphere.

Are you kidding me.This is INSANE…They are the Best that MSNBC has.Get over it higher up,look at BILLO and Shawn H.do you call them Fair….Freedom of speech…Where is this coming from SICKO RICKO DAVIS..I heard that Campbell Brown on CNN has had problems with the McCain Bunch.

It’s unbelievable that MSNBC can be so easily cowed by blowhards, flacks and liars. These two guys are the one reason that I watch this channel. Unlike most attempts at news programs, they do not just allow a talking head to spout their checklist of talking points regardless of the actual question asked! They can be downright insistent about getting an answer which is why so many pols avoid their shows! Investigative journalism is not based on accepting press releases as gospel but by questioning politicians, demanding answers full honest answers and not letting them stage manage a farce in front of the American people with the media as promoters!
Although David Gregory is a fine journalist and will no doubt acquit himself quite well as anchor on these broadcasts, do not let these very important voices be shouted down. Having a free press does not mean having a compliant press. Somebody has to say that the emperor has no clothes!!
September 9th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
It’s about time!! He was one of the worse reporters ever. He leaned so far left that he started to eat into H. Clinton when she was compared to Obama. Why? Because he’s more left than her.
You compare him to Shawn H. but he’s balanced out by Allen Colmes.
And you must be a pretty far leaner to the left to say the BILLO is not one of the most balanced reporter/interviewers out there. Sure he’s conservative but he’s pretty abrasive to anyone who he interviews if they try to talk around the questions.
Proof Positive in the ratings. BILLO has nobody even close half his ratings. But when you’re a whacko liberal like Keith, you do more damage than good to your party and the firing is eminent.

This appears to be censorship. Where is this nation headed?
Do we have Putin’s family in charge? Return these men to their jobs.
September 11th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
You have got to be kidding me. Keith and Chris are two of the biggest reasons I watch MSNBC. I love Countdown and the fact that it is straight forward. Rachel Maddow is a wonderful addition as well. Billo The Clown has done so many more terrible things than Keith and Chris did but the right wing conservatives eat that up like so much chowder. This is a huge travesty. Shame on you MSNBC.

9/11 was an inside job!!
September 12th, 2008 at 2:18 am
It’s sad when the news people from your mother network can’t take you anymore. If you go and watch all the videos on the internet, it’s a lot more than one clip. Keith Olbermann is a ticking time bomb, who never gives any fair sided view of the news. The guy is obviously nuts and the only thing else they need to do over on MSNBC is hire Rush Limbaugh. THan the will have the most extreme nuts in broadcasting that can have it out. It’s no surprise the network is dead last in the cable news ratings. SOme of these videos were second grade material. It’s amazing their grown men. Keith needs his own radio show like Rush. ANd like Rush, he needs to stay off tv. That way all the nuts who buy into his crazy statements can all be together. I laughed so hard watching all the videos. It will be fun to watch the next blowup!
September 12th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
Folks, the bottom line is that MSNBC and FOX and any other cable news networks run on MONEY and ratings run that. Can’t you see that Keith and Chris got canned because of low, low, dismal ratings that only a very few, select, liberal point of view, people could actually stand watching them. MSNBC is last in the ratings for a reason and thus can’t get the ad dollars that Fox or even CNN can get.
September 12th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
As for Rachel Maddow, the clock is clicking on her ratings and watching a minute of her last night degrading the President of the United States and using revisionist history against him will go down in so much flames just like her other cablemates….MSNBC saw the writing on the wall and was not FORCED by anything else but the ALL MIGHTY DOLLAR in removing them from the bottom of the heap ratings show that they lingered in…..
September 12th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
I can’t believe that Obermann and Mathews were fired
for being exuberent in doing their jobs of defending
the truth from the evil Rove right wing.
It’s obvious that the negative responses with regard
to the firing of these two are from that right wing
September 12th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
LONG OVERDUE … FINALLY SOMEONE AT MSNBC STEPPED UP TO
THE PLATE … WELL ALMOST … THEY REALLY NEED TO YANK THE MIKE CORD ON BOTH OF THESE EGO FREAKS. OBERMANN WAY TO SMUG
AND NOT FUNNY … IN SPITE OF WHAT HE THINKS. THE FUNNY THING IS MATTHEWS IS A JOKE. LOUD, OBNOXIOUS, RUDE, HIS LANGUAGE IS AWFUL … ESPECIALLY DURING THE TIME OF THE DAY OUR KIDS ARE SITTING AROUND THE TV. HE ALWAYS INTERRUPTS .. WANTING EVERYONE ONE TO THINK HE’S THE SMARTEST GUY IN THE STUDIO. GIVE ‘EM BOTH THE BIG PINK SLIP AND MUZZLE ‘EM FOR GOOD.
September 12th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
I just laugh reading all this liberal garbage. You are such hypocrites!! You guys think that everyone’s opinion should count until it goes against yours. You are all babies.
September 13th, 2008 at 11:10 am
All that Olbermann and Mathews represented to the so called mainstream meadia viewers was two very bitter liberals that hated everything about conservatism. People get sick of listening to the same rants everyday-nothing new from each of them. You can say what you want about FOX; but the fact of the matter each of the hosts at lease surround themselves with balance. Olbermann and Mathews surround themselves with people like them. Their programs are nothing but liberal loves fests just like Air America, you cant continue to listen without hearing the same nonsense over and over. Good ridance to the both of them. MSNBC has to pay the bills and they are comming to the realization they can’t do it with Olbermann and Mathews. CNN will find out the same thing with Campbell Brown, et al.
September 13th, 2008 at 11:57 am
Incredible. Finally, when a network (not even free, but cable) has 2 intelligent, erudite individuals who speak their minds and might differ with a free, biased network like FOX, and are taken down, OF WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID? NBC???
FOX goes along with their right wing hooha–nothing is done, and when NBC gets a little heat–you fold?
I guess it is going to have to be PBS and C-SPAN only..and not just for news–I am severly disapointed. And for all you who are gleeful–grow up and get some guts to listen to another opinion.
September 13th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Why? Is MSNBC going to give a statement with the real reasons why Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews were fired? I would like to have the truth not just rely on rumors. In America we are suppose to have viewing choices and those who disliked the shows didn’t have to watch them. I don’t care for Fox News but I feel they have a right to air their shows.
I have watched Countdown and Hardball regularly but from now on I will make the choice of PBS and the internet for the news.
I just don’t get it and am very sorry this had to happen.
September 14th, 2008 at 10:58 am
The very issues that these two outstanding journalists have fought against, and risen out awarness to, has resulted in their having been intimidated by the “orwellians”. Strong
vocal oppositional analysis of our government is essential to our surrvival. What a horrible travesty it is to eliminated Matthews and Olberman, or to at least “muzzle” them in this manner. If they go who remains to reflect the true magnitude of the deterioration of our culture as we have cherished it for so long? Answer:: NObody. I fear that this is the beginning of a trend by the corporated types in the media. Shame Shame Shame.
September 14th, 2008 at 12:00 pm
it is a sad day in america when the truth is being muzzled. msnbc has got to be kidding! they fired mathews and olberman because of their liberals view, the last time that I looked I lived in america. a news anchor on fox refered to an african child as a monkey nothing was said about that, oreily had a sex scandal a few years ago nothing was done about that, a news anchor was berating obama when one of their senior anchors started to reprimand him, he jumped up tore off his microphone and stormed off the stage like a child. msnbc Iam ashamed of your weakness by letting go of two of the best news anchors i’ve had the previlage to listen too in this free nation of ours. your weak, spineless and i will never watch your station again, glen beck is one of the most bias and racially prejudiced person i’ve ever had the miss fortune to hear on tv. yet he as snug in his position as a bug in a rug, msnbc shame on you!
September 15th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
As a conservative, I was happy to see Olberman removed from MSNBC’s coverage, Mathews…I am not so sure. Mathews may be more liberal than myself, however he was as close to fair and balanced that there is from the left. Olberman is a jackass for even trying to pretend that he was objective. As much as I like to listen to Fox News over MSNBC, I usually tune into MSNBC to watch election coverage events like the GOP convention just to see what the liberal opinions would be, I already knew how Fox would report it, much more fair and balance then CNN, or MSNBC. Keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer.
September 16th, 2008 at 12:56 am
Unbelievable that people like Olberman and Matthews have been on the air this long…when are the liberal media, and the liberal people in America going to realize that are the very small minority…they just yell louder, and cry harder to get attention..and free government money..!!! The majority of America is conservative, and CHRISTIAN..!!!! Our So very few of them even know what work really means…!!! Do something for a change that is for someone besides yourself..!!!
September 16th, 2008 at 12:59 am
and on the Obama note…name one single thing that he has REALLY done..!!!! Got free government money for housing and registered poor voters for the democratic party in Illinois.. besides that, what has he done..never been a lawyer, never been a real professor…I can’t find a single day that he worked, got a paycheck and did what every other male in America has to do…work to pay your utilities…sounds a lot like the other 2 heavy weight political guys have done…you know them… Al Sharpton & Jesse Jackson..!!! NEVER HAD A JOB..!!! Strictly lived off other peoples money, and our tax dollars..!!! Is this who we really want running the government..!!?
September 16th, 2008 at 3:56 pm
One of the glories of a free press and a free and open forum
is you may or may not listen to one or all sides. When you muzzle one side it is no longer free and open!
September 23rd, 2008 at 9:58 pm
Demoting Olbermann and Matthews?????????
And you gringos invade Irak so THEY can have democracy and freedom of speech, PLEASE!!!!!!! Double standard hypocrites.
All these guys did (together with Wonderfully intelligent and witty Rachel Maddow) was INFORM about what all those self righteous, ignorant, pampered, right-wing red necks still don’t get: THERE IS A WORLD OUT THERE. AND IT IS A DIFFERENT ONE than yours. In some ways better, in many ways, certainly worse. Nevertheless, please, before voting, try and do something you obviously don’t do very often: THINK, for God’s sake –just this once, if you can.
What a pitty. For once I thought media in the US was changing. Never mind.
September 24th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
I cant believe they fired keith olbermann. I watch fox and they were all for the republicans. shawn Hanity and bill o. dislike obama and the demacrats. keith olbermann made everything fair because it was like going after the fox network to even things out. the kieth olbermann show was the best news show on television. losing this guy is like when john kerry and al gore lost the election to the republican ediots who messed up the economy and everything else. now i dont have anything to watch at 8:00 pm. thanks alot msnbc. i will never watch your channel again.
October 1st, 2008 at 12:01 pm
I know this story is not news anymore, but I still feel the desire to add something to it. For anyone who doesn’t understand this…Olbermann and Matthews were fired for their behavior while actually covering the elections and conventions. Nobody is saying that they can’t speak their minds on their own time (on their shows), but when covering an election, you do need to maintain some sense of fairness.
Does nobody understand that what we see in the media today is NOT journalism? It is now a rarity to see any real journalism in the media, and I mean that for both sides of the political agenda.
And hey, the self-proclaimed old woman from Oregon, O’Reilly doesn’t cover the elections. He just has his show where he can make commentary. Nobody would even think to put O’Reilly up for the job of covering the elections. But, that’s why he hasn’t been fired, just as Matthews and Olbermann haven’t been let go of anything EXCEPT directly covering the election.
When FOX covers the elections, do you hear any of them making completely inappropriate comments? NO! You only hear the bias on their other shows. What is wrong with you guys who don’t seem to get it? This isn’t about MSNBC v. FOX or Left v. Right…this is about fairly covering the elections and if someone isn’t doing their JOB, they SHOULD be let go. Would you keep paying someone to cut your grass and trim your bushes if they only did part of their job? Get over it. Really? “i will never watch your channel again.”? Come on! You all are too dramatic about the whole thing.

NBC/MSNBC CANNOT CONTINUE MUCH LONGER TO WATCH THEIR RATINGS DROP BECAUSE OF THE IDIOTIC LEFT-WING PARTISAN RANTINGS AND LIES OF MATTHEWS AND THE BATHTUB MAN.
THE BATHTUB “O”MAN BURNT HIS BRIDGES WHEN HE WAS FORCED TO LEAVE ESPN AND AGAIN WHEN HE WAS FIRED BY FOX FOR BEING CRAZY. THE ONLY PLACE LEFT FOR HIM TO CONTINUE TO SPEW HIS IGNORANCE WILL BE AT THE DAILY KOS NUTHOUSE, WHEN HE IS FINALLY FIRED ALONG WITH MATTHEWS FROM MSNBC.
May 11th, 2009 at 2:02 pm
When I first read that Olbermann was fired, I became so excited thinking I would not have to see his smug face anymore on MSNBC. Unfortunately I still see him–but only during station breaks on FOX network. I usually can only take his vile jealousy of O’Reilly and other conservatives for the 2-3 minute station breaks before I become nausious and turn back to FOX where you can benefit from the fair and balanced reporting. NBC should do America a favor and banish Olbermann from TV altogether if they want to really improve their ratings. I don’t know from what cave they found him but please send him back to the dinosaurs.
