I watched Joel Osteen on 60 Minutes last night, June 8, 2008 — waiting eagerly for the last segment interview. I just love Joel Osteen, and the kindness and humility the Holy One has placed in him.

It was humbling to see Pastor Joel Osteen cry on 60 Minutes, so humbled was he by how much God has used him to change people’s lives for the better — saving their marriages and such.

I kvetched over the fact that 60 Minutes chose to go the popular “prosperity preacher” route, because it’s so much more to pastors like Joel Osteen than just the doctrine of prosperity.

I think “prosperity preacher” is just a popular label for the news media to apply to pastors like Joel Osteen right now, because it’s easy to call anyone who mentions the Bible verse about the Lord delighting in the prosperity of His servants as such.

Each preacher just has their own calling, and own area of emphasis. Other pastors, rightly so some of them, feel just as strongly called to preach hellfire and brimstone.

We need all the great leaders we can get pointing people to salvation in Christ…
