Last night I was watching Everybody Loves Raymond on TV, the two episodes where Debra recalls why she married Raymond in the first place.

They flashed back to Raymond getting his first sports column, then to Raymond’s father giving him a bottle of “hooch” to drink before their wedding.

Hot Debra — as all Raymond’s friends made sure to note — got mad because she thought Raymond’s goofy demeanor at their wedding was due to drunkeness. But in reality Raymond was just a goofball who was really happy to marry the hot woman who gave him white gym socks for his cold feet.

I love Raymond because his comedic genius and genuine humility is admirable for a man who has achieved such fame and status.

In real life, Ray Romano seems so down to earth. He said one time he was waiting in line at a fast food place with his kids, who were told they had to wait or couldn’t get an apple pie or something.

“Don’t they know who you are?” Ray’s son asked.

Ray nipped that attitude in the bud with his lovable Italian style that made his show so great.

The writing is impeccable, the actors melded together and everything worked.
